{"id":25882,"date":"2018-05-22T10:09:22","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T07:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.nli.org.il\/?p=25882"},"modified":"2019-09-11T13:55:07","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T10:55:07","slug":"selected-pearls-islam-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blognli2026.moonsite.co.il\/en\/selected-pearls-islam-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare and Illustrated Islamic Manuscripts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In honor of Ramadan, the Library is holding an exhibition of rare and beautiful Islamic manuscripts, dating from the 10th through the 18th centuries.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the unique items exhibited is a miniature Qur&#8217;an from the 10th century; mystical poetry written in Jerusalem in 1362; a royal manuscript from the library of the Ottoman Sultan, commissioned by Hatice Sultan (1766-1821); a liturgical poem called &#8220;The Great Armor&#8221;, which is traditionally recited by Shi\u2019ite Muslims during Ramadan; magnificently illustrated Persian poetry from the 17th century and much more.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Founded in 1924, the NLI&#8217;s Arabic and Islamic collection is the largest collection in Israel and one of the most important research collections in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The exhibition is open free to the public during the Library&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.nli.org.il\/sites\/NLI\/english\/Pages\/default.aspx#\/openingHours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opening hours (9:00 &#8211; 19:00)<\/a> until June 14th.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Exhibition curator:<\/strong> Dr. Raquel Ukeles.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25884\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25884\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25884\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.nli.org.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Yah_Ms_Ar_973_p49-970x507.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blognli2026.moonsite.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Yah_Ms_Ar_973_p49-970x507.jpg 970w, https:\/\/blognli2026.moonsite.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Yah_Ms_Ar_973_p49-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blognli2026.moonsite.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Yah_Ms_Ar_973_p49-768x401.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25884\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">During the month of Ramadan, Muslims traditionally read the Qur&#8217;an in 30 daily sections.
